Previously: Returning from a dangerous Navy deployment, Lauren walked into her homecoming ceremony only to spot her husband holding her sister's hand. But she had a secret that would ruin them both.

The Ultimatum in the Pastor's Study

The moment the ceremony concluded, Lauren politely excused herself from the well-wishers. With a quiet, commanding nod, she signaled to Mark and Sarah to follow her into the pastor's private study. Once inside, the heavy wooden door clicked shut, instantly sealing out the sounds of celebration. The atmosphere in the room turned freezing cold. Sarah refused to meet Lauren's gaze, fidgeting nervously with the stolen heirloom ring, while Mark stood with his arms crossed, his face hardened into a mask of cold indifference.

Without saying a word, Mark reached into his jacket and tossed a thick manila envelope onto the polished mahogany desk. "We aren't going to pretend, Lauren," he said, his voice sharp and unyielding.

"Sarah and I are in love. She has been living with me in the house since shortly after you deployed. We want a divorce, and we want it handled quietly."

Lauren stared at her sister, the girl she had protected and supported her entire life. "How could you do this to me?" Lauren asked, her voice a low, controlled whisper. Sarah finally snapped, her eyes flashing with defensive anger.

"You were never there, Lauren! Your career always came before us. Mark needed someone who actually had time for a relationship, not a ghost in a uniform!"

Mark stepped forward, leaning over the desk to press his advantage. He demanded that Lauren sign over the deed to their coastal home and leave the heirloom ring with Sarah. When Lauren refused, Mark sneered, revealing his ultimate weapon.

"If you fight us, I will release all the private letters you wrote me while you were deployed. You admitted to feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. I will present them to your command and claim you are mentally unfit. Your military career will be over before the divorce even starts."
They stood before her, smug and confident that they had won.
