Previously: Returning from a dangerous Navy deployment, Lauren walked into her homecoming ceremony only to spot her husband holding her sister's hand. But she had a secret that would ruin them both.

A Commander's Counterstrike

Lauren looked at the divorce papers, and then at the two people who believed they had successfully cornered her. A slow, calm smile spread across her face, catching them completely off guard. "You both underestimate my training," Lauren said softly. "And you completely forgot who owns the security system in our home." She explained that months ago, during a routine check of the home's remote security feed from her ship, she had watched them together. She had already known about the affair long before she docked.

Before deploying, Lauren had wisely kept the house deed solely in her name as it was purchased with her inheritance. More importantly, she had already drafted her own set of divorce papers. She pulled a document from her small uniform clutch and placed it over Mark's envelope.

"These papers strip you of any spousal support, Mark. You will leave my house by tonight, or you will be removed for trespassing."

Sarah gasped, clutching the diamond ring, but Lauren was not finished. She knocked twice on the heavy wooden door of the study. The door opened, and walking inside was Admiral Vance, a lifelong friend of Lauren's late father, accompanied by two base military police officers.

"Grand larceny of a registered family heirloom is a serious offense, Sarah,"
Lauren said, pointing to the ring.
"That ring is legally registered in my name with the naval estate. I suggest you take it off and hand it back, or the officers will assist you."

Pale and trembling, Sarah hastily slid the diamond ring off her finger and placed it on the desk. Mark stood frozen, realizing his threats of ruining Lauren's career were useless against the word of an Admiral. Escorted out of the church in disgrace, the two betrayers left with absolutely nothing. Lauren picked up her mother's ring, slipping it back onto her own hand where it belonged. She had defended her country, and now she had successfully defended her honor, ready to start a beautiful new chapter of her life. True strength is not just surviving the storm, but knowing exactly how to navigate through it.
