My Husband Kicked His Wealthy Mother Out of Our Party to Protect Me
A Hostage in the Kitchen
The laughter and clinking of glasses drifted from the open-concept living room, but inside the pristine white kitchen, the atmosphere was suffocating. Chloe clutched a sponge, her knuckles white as tears streamed down her cheeks. At twenty-two, she had hoped this party would finally be the moment she felt accepted by her husband Justin’s wealthy family. Instead, she was hiding behind the kitchen island, wearing a faded pink apron, scrubbing grease off heavy porcelain plates.
Suddenly, the glass doors swung open. Justin stepped in, his dark green suit immaculate, but his face was clouded with confusion and growing anger. He had been looking for his wife for thirty minutes. Behind him stood his mother, Eleanor, dressed in an elegant beige designer gown, holding a glass of champagne with a dismissive smirk.
"What's going on here?"
Justin’s voice boomed over the background music, demanding answers. Eleanor shrugged her shoulders, taking a slow sip of her drink.
"Don't be so dramatic, Justin," Eleanor said smoothly. "She just wanted to feel useful. After all, someone has to clean up."
Justin ignored his mother, stepping quickly toward Chloe. His heart broke at the sight of her red, swollen eyes. He reached out, his hands gentle as he untied the pink apron from her waist and tossed it onto the counter.
"Look at me, Chloe," Justin murmured, his voice softening. "Did you really want to wash dishes during the party? We hired caterers for this."
Chloe looked up, her voice trembling as she sobbed.
"No... she told me that my place was in the kitchen because I'm just the mother of your daughter, and not a real part of this family."
A dangerous silence fell over the room. Justin turned slowly to face Eleanor, his eyes burning with fury. He pointed a finger toward the front door.
"My party is over," Justin growled, his voice trembling with rage. "Get out of my house."
Before Eleanor could utter another word, Justin pulled Chloe into a warm, protective embrace, shielding her from his mother's cold glare.
