Previously: When Sarah's husband locked the front door, she thought she was trapped. But the secret she uncovered about his past meant he was the one who should be running.

The Confrontation Escalates

Ian took another step forward, closing the remaining distance between them. The air in the kitchen felt thin, charged with an electric hostility. Sarah pressed her back against the counter, her fingers gripping the edge so hard her knuckles turned white.

"You were in my office, Sarah," Ian said, his tone dangerously calm. "I know you found the briefcase. I want the documents back."

The betrayal cut deeper than any physical blow. Sarah looked at the man she had loved, realizing he was a stranger.

"You stole my sister's medical trust," she whispered, tears spilling over her lashes. "She needs that money for her heart surgery, Ian! It was my mother's dying wish to protect her. How could you forge her signature?"

Ian's face hardened, any pretense of remorse vanishing instantly.

"Your sister is not my responsibility," he hissed, reaching out to grab her arm. "My future is. Give me the purse, Sarah. Now."

When Sarah pulled back, Ian lunged. He snatched her phone from the counter and slammed it onto the hardwood floor, stamping on it until the screen shattered into useless black shards. Sarah gasped, truly terrified now. He grabbed her leather purse, ripping the zipper open and pulling out the thick manila folder she had hidden inside.

A triumphant, sneering smile crossed his face as he flipped it open. But as his eyes scanned the top page, his smile withered. The documents inside were blank, save for a single printed sentence: The truth is already free.

Ian's face drained of color. He looked up, his grip on the folder tightening until the cardboard crumpled.

"Where are they?" he roared, his calm facade shattering. "What did you do with the originals, Sarah?"

Sarah stood tall, her heart racing but her resolve absolute. She had anticipated this moment.
