When My Husband Punched My Attacker, He Accidentally Revealed a Dark Family Secret
Previously: When Chloe's abusive ex-husband Lucas crashed a high-end gala dinner, her older husband William defended her with violent fury. But the truth behind their confrontation was far darker.
The Cracks in the Savior's Armor
The dining room descended into absolute chaos. Guests shrieked, chairs scraped against the floor, and within moments, three burly security guards rushed into the room, pinning a groaning Lucas to the ground. Chloe was trembling violently, her hands still clutching her hair where Lucas had grabbed her. William turned to her, his breathing heavy, his knuckles bruised and bleeding. He knelt beside her, his expression instantly shifting from murderous rage to deep, tender concern.
"Are you alright, Chloe? Did he hurt you?" William asked, his voice shaking as he reached out to touch her cheek. But before Chloe could answer, a raspy, mocking laugh echoed from the floor. Lucas, spitting blood from his lip, looked up at William with a venomous glare.
"Go ahead, play the hero, William," Lucas sneered, coughing as the guards hauled him to his feet. "Tell her how you really saved her. Tell her how much you paid me to stay away from her—and how you set up our entire divorce!"
Chloe froze, her breath catching in her throat. She looked from Lucas’s bloody grin to William’s suddenly pale face. The older man’s eyes darted away, a flicker of guilt crossing his features before he quickly regained his composure. "Don't listen to him, Chloe. He's a lunatic trying to tear us apart," William insisted, but the urgency in his voice sounded more like panic than reassurance.
"I might be a criminal, but you’re a monster, William!" Lucas yelled as the guards began dragging him out of the double doors. "Ask him who bankrupted your father's company, Chloe! Ask him who funded my gambling debts just to get me out of the picture so he could swoop in and buy your family's loyalty!" The heavy doors slammed shut, leaving a suffocating silence in the room.
