Previously: Evelyn thought her daughter perished in a tragic fire fifteen years ago. But when a shivering little girl hands her a familiar music box on a rainy night, a dark family secret unravels.

The Ultimate Betrayal

The realization hit Evelyn like a physical blow. Arthur, the man who had held her as she wept for her lost daughter, the man who had helped her rebuild her life on a foundation of lies, was watching them. He wasn't surprised. He was terrified of being caught. Evelyn pulled her granddaughter tightly into her arms, shielding her from the pouring rain, and marched directly toward the idling car.

Arthur tried to lock the doors, but Evelyn’s loyal chauffeur, Marcus, had already stepped in, blocking the car's path with their own vehicle. Evelyn slammed her fist against Arthur's window until he rolled it down, his face pale but his expression quickly hardening into a cold sneer.

"Evelyn, get in the car. You're making a scene," Arthur hissed, glancing nervously at the nearby paparazzi who were beginning to notice the commotion.
"Where is she, Arthur?" Evelyn screamed, her voice cracking with a mixture of grief and furious, protective anger. "Where is my daughter?"

Arthur looked at the little girl standing behind Evelyn, and a dark, sinister smile crept across his lips. The mask of the loving, supportive husband was completely gone, replaced by the face of a monster.

"She is exactly where she belongs," Arthur whispered, his voice dripping with venom. "And if you want her to stay breathing, you will get in this car, go home, and never speak of this again. I am the only one who knows where she is. You call the police, and she dies."

Evelyn felt the ground fall away beneath her feet. For fifteen years, Arthur had kept her daughter Emma alive but hidden, using her as a secret insurance policy to ensure Evelyn’s massive family inheritance remained under his control. If Evelyn ever tried to leave him or cut him out of her will, he had the ultimate leverage. Now, standing in the freezing rain with her granddaughter's hand clutched in hers, Evelyn faced the most terrifying choice of her life. But she refused to be a victim any longer.
