Sarah lay gasping on the wet floor, her expensive peach dress soaked in dirty water. She sputtered, coughing up suds as she glared at her husband. "Are you insane, James?" she shrieked, her voice echoing through the spacious living room. "You pushed me! I could sue you for everything you have!" She struggled to sit up, her blonde hair plastered to her face like wet straw.

James didn't offer a hand to help her. Instead, he knelt beside Beatrice, gently helping his shaking mother to her feet. He wrapped a protective arm around her shoulders, feeling her tremble. "Are you okay, Mom?" he asked softly. Beatrice merely nodded, tears of relief spilling down her wrinkled cheeks.

Turning back to Sarah, James’s expression hardened into pure ice.

"Go ahead and call your lawyers, Sarah," James said, his voice deadly calm. "But before you do, you might want to look at the smoke detector on the ceiling."

Sarah’s eyes derted upward. A tiny, blinking red light gleamed from a hidden camera lens. Her face drained of all color. For months, Beatrice had refused to complain about Sarah's psychological and physical abuse, fearing she would ruin her son's marriage. But James had noticed his mother’s bruises and her sudden, anxious silence. He had installed the hidden cameras to catch his wife in the act.

"You think you're clever?" Sarah sneered, trying to regain her composure as she stood up, dripping wet. "Even if you have video, this is my house. Half of everything is mine under our prenuptial agreement. You’ll be ruined if you divorce me."

James pulled a folded document from the inside pocket of his business suit. He smiled, a cold, satisfied grin that made Sarah's heart sink.

"I suggested that prenup, Sarah, and my lawyers wrote it. Did you actually read the domestic abuse and morality clause?"
