Previously: After her husband physically defended his manipulative mother, Mariana decided to show them who really held the keys to their luxurious life. They forgot one detail: she owned everything.

The Falling House of Cards

Back inside the mansion, Ryan poured himself a glass of scotch, his chest still heaving with anger. Eleanor sat on the velvet sofa, adjusting her gold dress with an air of immense satisfaction. "You did the right thing, darling," Eleanor purred, taking a sip of her champagne. "She needed to learn her place. She has always behaved as if she owned this family." Ryan nodded, trying to convince himself that he had merely defended his family's honor. He had no idea that his world was already collapsing in the dark.

Within twenty minutes, the illusion began to shatter. Ryan’s phone buzzed aggressively on the glass coffee table. It was the vice president of Sterling Enterprises. When Ryan answered, the voice on the other end was frantic.

"Ryan, we have a massive crisis. The corporate accounts have been locked. The board of directors just received an emergency notice that our primary funding line has been revoked!"

Before Ryan could process the news, another alert flashed on his screen. His personal black card had been declined for a luxury car payment he had scheduled. Eleanor’s phone rang next—her personal banker was calling to inform her that her trust fund allowance had been suspended indefinitely.

Panic, cold and sharp, flooded the room. Ryan tried to call Mariana, but his calls went straight to voicemail. He had forgotten the fundamental truth of their marriage: Mariana’s late father had been the silent partner who funded the entirety of the Sterling empire. The grand mansion they stood in, the business they ran, and the very air they breathed were subsidized by Mariana’s estate.

By morning, the reality of Mariana's command had fully set in. The gates of the estate opened not for Mariana’s return, but for a fleet of black SUVs. Arthur, Mariana's chief legal counsel, stepped out, flanked by private security guards and a team of professional movers. Ryan and Eleanor rushed to the front steps, their faces pale and exhausted from a sleepless night.

"What is the meaning of this?" Ryan demanded, trying to project authority he no longer possessed. "Get these people off my property!"

Arthur stopped at the base of the marble steps, holding a thick leather folder. He looked at Ryan with professional disdain.

"Mr. Sterling, this is no longer your property. As of midnight, the lease agreement between the Sterling Trust and this estate has been terminated due to a breach of the marital respect clause. You have exactly two hours to vacate the premises."
