Clara rushed out of the warehouse doors, her heels clicking rapidly against the concrete. The cool afternoon air did little to soothe the burning panic in her chest. She scanned the parking lot and quickly spotted the white sedan that had sped past earlier. It was idling near the loading zone. David was already there, lifting the heavy boxes of diapers and formula into the trunk. Her hands trembled as she approached, her vision blurring with unshed tears.

As she drew closer, the passenger door of the white car opened. A woman in her late twenties stepped out, holding a chubby-cheeked toddler in her arms. Clara watched in absolute horror as David closed the trunk, walked over to the young woman, and kissed her affectionately on the lips. The toddler giggled, reaching out his tiny hands toward David, who took him into his arms with practiced ease. It was a picture-perfect family portrait, and Clara was completely written out of it.

"David?" Clara's voice was barely a whisper, but in the quiet of the parking lot, it cut through the air like a knife.

David froze. His face drained of all color as he slowly turned to face his wife. The warmth in his eyes instantly evaporated, replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated terror. He clutched the toddler tighter, his knuckles turning white. The young woman looked between Clara and David, her expression shifting from confusion to deep concern.

"David, who is this woman?" the young woman asked, her voice trembling. "And why is she looking at you like that?"

Clara stepped forward, her black blazer suddenly feeling like a heavy suit of armor. She looked directly at the young woman, her voice steadying through sheer willpower.

"I am Clara," she said, looking the younger woman dead in the eye. "I have been David's wife for twelve years. Who are you?"
