My Abusive Husband Thought I Was Alone, Until My Estranged Father Stormed In
Previously: Jessica thought there was no escape from her husband's escalating anger. But when a knock on the door revealed a face from her past, everything changed in an instant.
A Voice from the Past
Derek lay groaning on the floor, the wind completely knocked out of him. He glared up at the officer, his eyes darting toward the door as if looking for an escape, but Richard stood like an immovable wall. Jessica, still trembling, looked up at the older man. Through her blurred vision, the sharp lines of his face began to look agonizingly familiar. It had been nearly ten years since she had last seen him—ten years since her father, Colonel Richard Vance, had vanished from her life after a bitter family estrangement orchestrated by her mother.
Derek sneered from the floor, spitting out a mouthful of saliva.
"You have no right to be here! This is private property! Jessica, tell this old man to get out!"
Richard didn't break eye contact with Derek as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his military police credentials, alongside a state warrant.
"I have every right, Derek. I've been tracking your movements for six months. Did you really think you could change your name, move across three state lines, and keep my daughter hostage in this run-down house?"Richard's voice was low, dangerous, and steady.
Jessica's breath hitched. "Dad?" she whispered, the word feeling foreign yet deeply comforting on her tongue. For years, Derek had told her that her family had abandoned her, that her father had passed away in an overseas deployment, and that he was the only one who truly cared for her. It was the lie Derek used to isolate her, to strip away her support system until she was completely dependent on his toxic mercy.
Richard’s stern expression softened for a fraction of a second as he looked at his daughter.
"I'm here, Jessie. I never stopped looking for you. I found out about the falsified letters Derek sent to keep us apart."Turning back to Derek, his eyes hardened again.
"The local authorities are right outside. Your little game of control ends tonight."
”Your little game of control ends tonight."
