The air inside the luxury villa was heavy with tension, a stark contrast to the sparkling crystal chandeliers and polished marble floors. To anyone looking through the tall glass windows, Thomas and Claire Vance were the picture of high-society perfection. But inside the kitchen, a dark and terrifying reality was unfolding. Thomas, dressed in a sharp charcoal designer suit and a perfectly tied bow tie, gripped his wife’s shoulders. His eyes, usually warm and charismatic in public, were cold and venomous. With a sudden, violent surge of anger, he firmly shoved Claire backward.

Her back slammed against the cold stone kitchen counter. The impact knocked the breath from her lungs, and her white silk kimono-style robe fluttered around her bruised legs. She gasped, looking up at the man she had promised to love forever, finding only a monster staring back. Thomas sneered, smoothing his lapels.

"You are nothing without me, Claire. Keep pushing your luck, and I will make sure you disappear."

Terrified and trembling, Claire managed to pull herself up and flee to the safety of the master bathroom. She locked the heavy mahogany door, sinking to the tiled floor as tears of sheer terror streamed down her face. She looked at her reflection, seeing the faint purple bruises blooming on her collarbone. She knew she couldn't survive another night of this torment. With shaking fingers, she opened a deep vanity drawer, reaching past her cosmetics to find a small, black electronic device hidden in the back. In the center was a single, glowing red button. Her father had given it to her years ago, a direct line of emergency defense. Taking a ragged breath, Claire pressed it.

Minutes later, the front doors of the villa swung open. A line of six elite, black-suited security guards marched into the grand dining room. Hearing the commotion, Thomas walked toward them, a smug, warm smile returning to his face. He assumed they were the security detail he had contracted to keep Claire isolated.

"It's so good that you finally came to your senses,"
Thomas said, gesturing toward the stairs. But his smile instantly froze in absolute shock. Standing right behind him, silent and resolute in her torn silk robe, was Claire. And the guards were not looking at Thomas; their eyes were locked onto her, waiting for her command.
