Previously: When Olivia's ruthless ex-husband threw her onto the pavement to make room for his new lover, he forgot one crucial detail: Olivia's father owned the very ground they stood on.

The Arrival of the Patriarch

The doors of the black SUVs flew open simultaneously. From the passenger side of the lead vehicle stepped Arthur Vance. At sixty-two, Arthur was a towering figure of quiet power, dressed in a bespoke charcoal suit that commanded immediate respect. Behind him, four sharp-eyed men in matching dark suits stepped out, carrying heavy leather briefcases. These weren't just bodyguards; they were the city’s most ruthless corporate attorneys.

Richard’s smug smile instantly vanished, replaced by a pale, anxious sweat. He knew exactly who Arthur Vance was, even if he had spent the last five years trying to pretend his wife’s family didn't exist. Richard had always believed Olivia’s family had disowned her when she married him against their wishes. He had no idea she had simply chosen to live a humble life to protect Richard's fragile ego.

"Arthur," Richard stammered, stepping down a single stair while keeping Sarah close behind him. "This is private property. You can't just barge in here with your security."

Arthur didn't even look at Richard. He walked straight to Olivia, gently lifting her from the ground and wrapping his arm around her shoulders. He kissed her forehead, his eyes softening. "I've got you, sweetheart," he murmured. Then, he turned his gaze toward Richard, and the warmth in his eyes instantly turned to ice.

"Private property, Richard?" Arthur asked, his voice echoing across the courtyard. "I suggest you check the deed to this estate. Or perhaps, check the funding source of your startup's primary holding company."

One of the lawyers stepped forward, opening a leather briefcase and pulling out a thick stack of notarized documents. Richard’s breath hitched. He had taken out a massive, anonymous multi-million dollar loan to purchase this mansion and fund his tech company. He had always believed it was a stroke of venture capital luck.

"The anonymous trust that funded your entire lifestyle is Vance Enterprises," the lead lawyer announced. "And due to your breach of the moral clause in the funding contract, we are calling the debt. Effective immediately."
