Previously: When David hands his leftover dinner to a shivering little girl, he follows her into a dark alley—only to uncover a devastating lie and a shocking family secret.

The Cruel Truth Revealed

David could not stand by and watch in silence. He gently knocked on the wooden doorframe, stepping out of the shadows. The mother gasped, instantly pulling her children behind her in a protective shield. Her eyes were wide with fear, accustomed to a world that had thrown nothing but hardship her way.

"Please, don't be afraid," David said, raising his hands. "My name is David. I'm the one who gave your daughter the food. I wanted to make sure you were all okay."

The mother, Sarah, slowly let her guard down, her shoulders slumping with exhaustion. She thanked him profusely, tears welling in her eyes. But as David looked around the freezing, damp room, his eyes caught a piece of paper lying on the table. It was an eviction notice printed with bright red ink. When David read the signature at the bottom, his blood ran cold. The landlord was Marcus Vance—David's estranged elder brother.

Marcus was a ruthless real estate developer who had cheated David out of his share of their family inheritance years ago. They hadn't spoken in five years. Now, his brother's cruelty was staring him in the face once again.

Sarah explained through her tears that her husband had passed away six months prior. Marcus had promised she could stay in exchange for cleaning his commercial properties, but he had suddenly reneged on the deal, demanding they vacate within forty-eight hours.

Furious, David stepped out into the hallway and dialed his brother's private number. When Marcus answered with his usual smug arrogance, David didn't hold back.

"You are evicting a starving widow and her three children, Marcus. If you don't call this off immediately, I will make it my life's mission to ruin you," David warned.

Marcus laughed coldly. "They owe rent, David. Business is business. Try to stop me, and I'll have them arrested for trespassing before the sun rises." The line went dead, leaving David in the freezing dark with time running out.
