Previously: Amelia finds her long-lost husband Marcus living on the streets with amnesia. When she proposes to help him remember, her greedy uncle arrives to stop him from reclaiming his life.

The Shadows of the Past

The men in black suits moved with terrifying speed, lunging forward to grab Marcus. But Amelia threw herself in the way, using her own body as a shield.

"Don't touch him!" she screamed, her voice echoing off the brick alleyways. "Arthur, stay away from him!"

Uncle Arthur stepped out of the luxury vehicle, his expensive leather shoes stepping into the dirty water. He looked at Marcus with a mixture of disgust and cold calculation. For three years, Arthur had ruled the family empire, telling everyone that Marcus had perished in the river after their tragic car accident. But it was all a lie. Arthur had found Marcus alive, suffering from severe amnesia, and had intentionally left him to rot on the streets, keeping him heavily medicated through corrupt doctors to ensure he would never reclaim his birthright.

Now, the legal deadline to permanently transfer the family trust was only hours away. If Amelia married anyone else, or if Marcus was declared legally dead or incompetent, Arthur would inherit everything.

"He is a lunatic, Amelia," Arthur sneered, gesturing to his lawyers who had emerged from the car with legal documents. "He belongs in an asylum. Sign the conservatorship papers, Marcus. Sign them, and the pain stops."

The guards pinned Marcus against the brick wall. A lawyer forced a pen into his trembling, dirty hand, pressing a clipboard against his chest. Marcus looked terrified, his eyes darting wildly. He looked at the ring box in his hand, then at the engraving inside the band that read: Forever, A & M.

Amelia struggled against the guard holding her back, her knees bleeding.

"Marcus, please!" she cried out. "Don't sign it! Remember the night at the lighthouse! Remember who you are!"

Arthur laughed coldly.

"He doesn't even know his own name, Amelia. It's over."
