Previously: On the brink of losing everything, Eleanor shared her final meal with three mysterious travelers on a dusty road—a simple act of kindness that would rewrite her entire destiny.

The Price of Greed

Before Eleanor could process the reality of Franklin’s true identity, the roaring engine of a rusty pickup truck shattered the emotional moment. The truck skidded to a halt behind the luxury cars, and Thomas, Eleanor’s arrogant stepbrother, stormed out. He was clutching a rolled-up document, his face contorted with anger. He had spent the last week trying to drive Eleanor and her family off the land so he could sell it to industrial developers, and seeing them surrounded by luxury cars drove him into a frenzy.

"What is going on here?"
Thomas bellowed, marching toward them.
"Eleanor, I told you to get off this property! You’re trespassing, and I have the deed right here to prove it!"

He stopped dead in his tracks when Franklin turned around. Thomas’s face drained of color. He recognized Franklin Vance, the billionaire developer whose company held the monopoly on all land acquisitions in the county. Thomas had been desperately trying to secure a meeting with Vance for months to sell the family farm. To see the billionaire standing on a dusty road with his exiled stepsister was his worst nightmare.

"Mr. Vance!"
Thomas stammered, suddenly trying to adopt an obsequious smile.
"I had no idea you were in the area. Please, don't mind this trash. I am ready to sign the papers to transfer the farm to your corporation immediately."

Franklin did not smile. He stepped between Thomas and Eleanor, his posture commanding and protective. "I am well aware of the farm, Thomas," Franklin said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "But I am also aware of your late father’s true wishes. He was a client of my firm, and he left this land to Eleanor. That deed in your hand is a forgery."

That deed in your hand is a forgery."
