An Innocent Couple Is Attacked Outside the Capitol, Uncovering a Dark Family Secret
Previously: When a routine trip to the nation's capital turns into a violent police confrontation, a young couple discovers that a twenty-year-old family conspiracy is far from dead.
The Sinister Truth Behind the Badge
The younger officer, whose nametag read Jenkins, quickly stepped between his aggressive partner, Officer Miller, and the terrified couple. "Miller, stand down!" Jenkins commanded, his voice tight with tension. "What is going on here? They aren't armed!"
Millerβs face flushed a deep, angry red. He pointed a trembling, accusatory finger at David. "These two are trespassing on restricted federal property and disobeying direct orders! Iβm placing them under arrest!" He lunged forward again, trying to grab the manila folder that had fallen from David's grip during the struggle.
But David was faster. He snatched the folder from the ground, his knuckles turning white as he clutched it to his chest. He looked past Miller, locking eyes with Officer Jenkins. "He's not protecting the Capitol, Officer Jenkins! He's protecting himself!" David yelled, his voice cracking with emotion.
Sarah, leaning heavily on David, wiped the tears from her face. "Show him, David. Show him what we brought," she whispered, her voice shaking but resolute.
David opened the folder, pulling out a faded photograph and a high-security encrypted flash drive. "Twenty years ago, my father, Arthur Vance, was framed for a security breach in this very building. He was disgraced, fired, and died of a broken heart. The man who actually stole those classified files and pinned it on him was his partner. The man standing right in front of you."
Miller lunged, his baton raised in a desperate bid to destroy the evidence. "That's a lie! They are conspiracy theorists! Arrest them!" he screamed, his professional facade completely crumbling into panic. But Jenkins didn't move to assist Miller. Instead, he looked at the photograph David held. It showed a young, smiling Arthur Vance standing next to a much younger, arrogant Officer Miller.
