The Mole Was Standing Right Behind Me, and He Was Holding Leo's Hand

I didn't sleep that night. I sat in my office on the 40th floor, staring at the city lights, going over every name, every face, every handshake I'd had in the last five years.

Victor's words echoed in my head: "Someone closer than you think."

The Janitor Dad Was the Hidden Founder, and Everyone Laughed at Him

The next morning, I called a full leadership meeting. I didn't tell them why. I just said it was time to introduce the new branch structure.

I stood at the head of the table, and I watched them file in. Rocco, the security commander, took his usual seat by the door. The CFO, a sharp woman named Dana, sat across from me. And then there was Marcus, my longtime friend and head of operations — the man who'd been with me since the beginning.

Marcus smiled at me as he sat down, the same warm smile he'd given me at my wedding. "Rough night, Matteo? You look like you haven't slept."

"I haven't," I said. "But I think I finally know who's been feeding Victor information."

I didn't look at him. I looked at the door.

"It's someone who knew about the vault's security schedule," I said. "Someone who knew when the biometric pillar would be offline for maintenance. Someone who had access to my personal calendar."

I paused. "Someone who knew I was planning to fire Victor today."

The room went silent. Marcus's smile didn't flicker, but his knuckles went white on the table.

"You think it's me?" he said, his voice steady. "Matteo, we've been friends for twenty years."

"I know," I said. "That's why it took me so long to accept it."

I pulled out a folder from my briefcase and slid it across the table. "The off-shore account in your name. The deposits that started exactly six months after Victor took over the branch. The encrypted messages sent from your personal phone to his."

Marcus didn't open the folder. He just stared at it, and then at me. "You have no proof."

"I have everything," I said. "And I have a witness."

I looked at Rocco, who nodded and opened the door. A young woman walked in — the night-shift security guard who'd seen Marcus slipping into Victor's office at 2 a.m. three weeks ago.

Marcus's face finally cracked. He pushed his chair back, standing abruptly. "You think you're so clever, Matteo. But you forgot one thing."

He pulled out his phone and held it up. "I have a video of you and Leo in the lobby yesterday. The way you looked at Victor, the way you let your son speak for you. It's all over the internet now. By tonight, everyone will know the 'janitor founder' is a hypocrite who hid his identity from his own employees."

I smiled. "I know. I posted it myself."

Marcus blinked. "What?"

"I wanted the world to see the truth," I said. "That I've been on the ground, working alongside my people, while you and Victor were skimming from the top."

I stood up and walked around the table, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You're fired, Marcus. And the police are waiting outside."

He didn't fight it. He just walked out, head down, like a man who'd finally been caught.

After the door closed, I let out a long breath. Leo was waiting for me in my office, playing with his toy crane on the floor.

"Did you catch the bad guy, Dad?" he asked, without looking up.

"Yeah," I said, kneeling beside him. "I did."

He looked at me, his eyes serious. "Are you going to be a janitor again?"

I laughed, and it felt like the first real laugh in years. "No, buddy. I'm going to be a better founder. One who never forgets what it's like to be on the ground."

He smiled, and I knew the company was in good hands.
