Previously: When Damien forced old Viktor to kneel over spilled espresso, he never guessed the janitor was the secret founder. But his granddaughter's tears triggered a showdown that changed everything.

The Leverage That Nearly Broke Him

Harold Croft's leverage was a video—a recording from thirty years ago, showing Viktor Volkov signing a secret deal with a foreign investor, a deal that could be interpreted as treason. Harold threatened to release it unless Viktor dropped all charges and reinstated Damien.

Viktor sat in his private office, the video playing on a loop. Sophie was asleep on the couch, her yellow sundress bunched around her like a cocoon. Richard Moretti stood by the window, his face grim.

"The investor was a shell company," Richard said. "But the public won't see it that way. They'll think you sold secrets to an enemy."

Viktor rubbed his temples. "It was a real estate deal. I was trying to build a hospital. But Harold twisted it, as always."

"We can fight it," Richard said. "But it will take time, and the damage might already be done."

Viktor looked at Sophie, her chest rising and falling with soft breaths. "I can't let her see me destroyed," he whispered. "She already lost her parents. I'm all she has."

"Then we need a different approach."

Viktor's eyes flickered. "What if we give Harold what he wants—but in a way that traps him?"

He picked up his phone and dialed Harold's number. "Let's meet. Tonight."

They met in the same VIP concourse, now empty and dim. Harold Croft, a silver-haired man in a tailored suit, stood by the espresso stain, a smirk on his face.

"You look tired, Viktor," Harold said. "All those years of scrubbing floors took their toll."

"I'm not here for pleasantries," Viktor said. "You want me to back off. I want that video destroyed."

Harold laughed. "You have nothing to negotiate with."

"Actually, I do." Viktor pulled out a folder. "This is a signed confession from your son, detailing how you embezzled from the company and framed me for it. The moment you release that video, this goes to the press."

Harold's smirk faded. "You're bluffing."

"Am I?" Viktor said. "Look at the signature."

Harold glanced at the paper, and his face went pale. "How did you get this?"

"Damien's desperation is a powerful tool," Viktor said. "He would do anything to save himself."

Harold's hands trembled. "You think you've won?"

"I think I've protected my family," Viktor said. "And that's all that matters."

Suddenly, the lights blazed on, and a team of forensic accountants filed in, led by Richard Moretti.

"Harold Croft," Richard announced, "you're under arrest for fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy."

Harold stumbled backward. "This isn't over!"

But the security guards were already taking him away.

In the aftermath, Viktor stood alone, looking at the espresso stain. Sophie padded over, rubbing her eyes.

"Grandpa, did you win?"

Viktor knelt down and hugged her. "We won, sweetheart. We always will."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, worn photograph—a young woman with the same chestnut curls as Sophie. "This is your grandmother," he said softly. "She believed in building things, not destroying them."

Sophie looked at the photo. "She's pretty."

"She was," Viktor said, his voice thick. "And she'd be proud of you."

He stood up, taking Sophie's hand. "Come on. Let's go get that ice cream now."

As they walked out of the Galleria, Viktor glanced back at the marble floor, where the stain had finally been wiped clean.

"Some things," he said, "are worth more than money."

Sophie squeezed his hand. "Like family?"

"Yes," he said, smiling. "Like family."

And in that moment, the old janitor—the founder, the patriarch, the grandfather—finally found his peace.
