Previously: Damien threw a rag at a grimy janitor and his son. But when the father's palm hit the founder's scanner, the vault opened — and Damien's world collapsed.

The Final Letter in the Vault Changed Everything Damien Thought He Knew

Arthur spent the next three days in the vault, pouring over Samuel's personal files. He found bank statements, legal documents, and old photographs — but nothing that explained the mystery of Samuel's death.

On the fourth day, Eleanor came to him with a lead. "I found something," she said, holding up a flash drive. "It was hidden in the filing cabinet behind the Meridian blueprints."

Arthur plugged it into his laptop. The screen flickered to life, showing a video recording — dated two days before Samuel's death.

Samuel sat in his office, looking tired but determined. He spoke directly to the camera.

"Arthur, if you're watching this, then something has happened to me. I need you to know the truth. Damien is my son, but he's also a criminal. He's been siphoning funds for years, and when I confronted him, he threatened me. He said he'd destroy the company if I didn't sign everything over to him."

Samuel paused, wiping his eyes. "I refused. But I knew he wouldn't stop. So I've arranged everything. The biometric records are real, Arthur. You are the sole founder. And I've left a sworn affidavit with my lawyer, along with this video."

Arthur's hands were shaking. "He killed him. Damien killed his own father."

Eleanor looked pale. "We need to hand this to the police."

Arthur nodded. "But first, I want to see Damien's face when he realizes what he's lost."

The next day, Arthur stood in the rotunda, the vault doors open behind him. Damien was brought in, handcuffed, his lawyer nowhere to be seen.

"What is this?" Damien demanded. "Another trick?"

Arthur pressed play on the laptop. Samuel's face filled the screen, and Damien's bravado crumbled.

"No," Damien whispered. "That's not real. That's fake."

"It's real," Arthur said. "And it's going to put you away for a long time."

Damien's knees buckled. "He was going to cut me out! I just wanted what was mine!"

"He was your father," Arthur said, his voice cold. "And you killed him."

Damien broke down, sobbing, as the guards dragged him away.

Arthur watched him go, feeling a strange mix of relief and grief. He'd lost his partner, his friend — but he'd also found the truth.

That evening, Arthur sat on the floor of the rotunda with Toby, the glass model tower glowing between them.

"What happened to the bad man, Dad?" Toby asked.

"He's going away for a long time," Arthur said. "He hurt people, and now he has to pay for it."

Toby nodded, his small hand finding Arthur's. "I'm glad you're not a janitor anymore. But I liked when you picked me up from school."

Arthur smiled, pulling his son into a hug. "I'll still pick you up from school. I'll just be wearing a better suit."

Toby laughed. "Can I press the gold button next time?"

Arthur looked at the founder's pillar, then back at his son. "Someday, buddy. Someday, this will all be yours."

He stood, lifting Toby onto his shoulders, and walked out of the rotunda into the warm evening light.

The company was safe. The truth was out. And Arthur Pendelton was finally free.

As the doors closed behind them, Eleanor smiled, watching the founder and his son disappear into the city.

"Long live the chief," she said quietly, and turned to lock the vault for the night.
