A Kind Vendor Saved Me as a Child—Years Later, I Returned to Save Him
Previously: When Audrey was a starving child, a kind vendor gave her a free ice cream. Years later, she finds him bankrupt and about to lose everything—and steps in to repay the debt.
The Confrontation on the Cobblestone
Audrey’s luxury vehicle screeched to a halt near the old cobblestone street where her life had once been touched by kindness. The neighborhood had deteriorated, but the memories remained vivid. As she stepped out of her car, her tailored blazer sharp against the drab surroundings, she took in the heartbreaking scene before her. Robert was indeed sitting on the curb, looking incredibly frail and defeated. But he was not alone.
Standing over him was Marcus Sterling, a notorious real estate developer known for his ruthless tactics in gentrifying the area. Sterling’s hired movers were actively carrying Robert's modest furniture and old belongings out of his small, adjacent apartment, piling them callously on the dirty sidewalk.
'You've had plenty of warning, old man,' Sterling sneered, waving a stack of legal eviction notices. 'This property belongs to my firm now. Sign the final release, and maybe I'll let you keep enough cash for a motel room tonight.'
Robert looked up, his eyes hollow. 'Please, Mr. Sterling. This cart, this apartment... it's all I have left. My wife’s medical debt took everything. Just give me another month to find a place.'
'You don't have another month, and you don't have a choice,' Sterling barked, gesturing for his men to speed up. 'Get this junk out of here!'
Audrey felt a cold, burning fury ignite within her. She knew Sterling; his firm had tried to cross paths with her investment company before, and she had thoroughly outmaneuvered him. She marched forward, her high heels clicking like a countdown on the cobblestones.
'Step away from him, Marcus,' Audrey commanded, her voice cutting through the humid air like a blade.
Sterling spun around, his arrogant smirk faltering as he recognized the powerful CEO standing before him. 'Audrey? What are you doing in this dump?'
'I'm here to settle a debt,' she replied, standing protectively between Robert and the developer. 'And to make sure you never set foot on this street again.'
