Previously: When a struggling waitress paid for an elderly woman's simple bowl of soup, she never expected the mysterious note slipped into her hand to expose a dark family secret.

The Dark Secret Unveiled

Richard, the greedy and notoriously harsh manager of the diner, stood over them with his arms crossed, a scowl deepening on his face. He had been watching them from the security monitor in his back office, always eager to catch his employees making a mistake.

"What is going on here, Amanda?" Richard demanded, his voice booming through the quiet diner. "Are we running a charity now?"

Amanda stood her ground, explaining that she was paying for the soup out of her own tips. But Richard wasn't listening. His eyes locked onto the folded note in Amanda's hand. With a quick, aggressive movement, he snatched the paper away from her. As he unfolded it and read the frantic handwriting, the color drained completely from his face. His arrogant posture collapsed, replaced by a look of sheer panic.

He stared at the elderly woman, his hands shaking violently. He whispered her name under his breath, a look of terror in his eyes.

"Evelyn... How did you get out? You’re supposed to be locked away," Richard hissed, stepping closer and grabbing her arm.

Amanda was stunned. She looked down at the floor where Richard had dropped the note in his panic. Quickly picking it up, she read the words that made her blood run cold. Evelyn wasn't a stranger; she was the widow of the diner's original founder. The note explained that Richard, her nephew, had forged her signature on a power of attorney document, seized her entire estate, and locked her in a cheap, isolated nursing home under a false name to keep her from speaking out.

Evelyn looked at Amanda with desperate, pleading eyes as Richard began dragging her toward the back exit, his fingers frantically dialing a number on his phone.

"Help me, Amanda! Don't let him take me back there!" Evelyn cried out, struggling against his grip.

Amanda knew she had to act fast. Richard was desperate, and a desperate man was capable of anything.
