The grand cathedral of Oakhaven was bathed in a cold, golden sunlight that filtered through the towering stained-glass windows. Yet, despite the beauty of the morning, a suffocating silence hung over the congregation. Prince Marcus, a young nobleman dressed in gold-embroidered black silk, felt his heart hammering against his ribs as he stood at the altar. Today was the day he would fulfill his late father's dying wish: to marry Princess Isabella, the daughter of King Henry, and secure peace between their houses.

A Cryptic Royal Ceremony

But this was no ordinary royal wedding. Rumors had plagued the kingdom for a decade about the reclusive princess, whom no living soul had seen since her childhood. As the heavy wooden doors of the cathedral groaned open, the truth proved far stranger than any rumor. King Henry, an aged ruler draped in a plush, royal blue velvet cloak, walked slowly down the aisle. Beside him was a figure in a pristine white bridal gown. However, her head was entirely encased in a heavy, locked wooden barrel, bound with iron straps and a brass padlock.

Marcus felt a chill run down his spine. The guests gasped in hushed whispers. King Henry reached the altar, his eyes hard and unforgiving as he placed the girl's trembling hand into Marcus's. He looked directly at the young prince and spoke with absolute authority.

"My daughter is now your wife. You will honor this union, Marcus."

The King then handed Marcus a small brass key. The prince's hands shook as he stepped closer to his bride. He could hear her shallow, terrified breaths from inside the dark wood. With a trembling hand, Marcus inserted the key into the metal latch of the barrel. He slowly pulled the small door open and peered inside. His eyes adjusted to the dim light, and a gasp of pure horror escaped his lips.

"Oh my God..."
