The Last Words of Her Mother Lead a Girl to a Scarred Biker
Previously: When Macy approached a rugged, scarred biker in a dim diner, her grandmother begged her to stop. But a hidden card and her late mother's final secret were about to change their lives forever.
A Father's True Sacrifice
Jack reached out, his hand stopping just short of Macy's face, as if he feared he might break her. "I never wanted to leave you, Macy," he whispered, his voice cracking with decades of buried grief. "But your grandmother made me believe you would have a better life, with the best medical care, if I was out of the picture. I thought I was protecting you."
Macy reached up and took his rough hand, pressing it against her cheek.
"You did protect me. Mom wrote down what really happened that night. The police report said the other driver crossed the yellow line. But more than that... she wrote about how you threw yourself over my car seat. This scar on your face? You got it from the glass when you pulled me out of the burning wreck."
Helen sank into the booth opposite them, burying her face in her hands. The armor of her bitterness had finally shattered. "I was so angry," she sobbed. "I lost my daughter to illness years later, and I couldn't bear the reminder of that terrible night. I am so sorry, Jack. I ruined your lives."
Jack looked at Helen, the anger in his eyes melting into a weary forgiveness. "We both loved Sarah," he said quietly. "And we both love Macy. That's all that matters now."
Macy wheeled closer, wrapping her arms around the rugged biker. For the first time in twenty years, Jack held his daughter, his tears wetting her hair. The diner's red neon lights seemed warmer now, casting a glow of hope over a family finally reunited. True love and sacrifice can survive the longest winters, but the truth will always find its way back home.
