A Little Girl Crashed His Wedding With A Photo That Changed Everything
Previously: When seven-year-old Lily interrupted Esteban’s lavish wedding holding a crumpled photograph, she didn't want cake. Her desperate plea sent the groom running from the altar to a hospital bedside.
The Ghost of the Past
Esteban fell to his knees beside the bed, grasping Sarah’s cold, thin hand. Seven years ago, Sarah had vanished overnight, leaving him devastated and broken. He had searched for months, only to be told by his mother that Sarah had taken a large sum of money to walk away from him. Believing the lie, Esteban had eventually moved on, agreeing to an arranged marriage with Olivia to satisfy his family's business interests. But looking at Sarah now, fighting for her life in a charity ward, he knew he had been horribly deceived.
Before Sarah could explain, the hospital door burst open. Olivia stood there, her wedding dress trailing on the dusty floor, her face contorted in anger. Esteban's mother, Eleanor, was right behind her, her eyes flashing with panic when she saw Sarah.
"Esteban, what is the meaning of this?" Olivia shrieked. "You left me at the altar for this... this charity case?"
Esteban stood up, his eyes cold as steel. He looked at his mother. "Why is she here, Mother? And why did she leave me seven years ago?"
Eleanor tried to play it off, but Sarah, summoning her remaining strength, spoke up. "She threatened me, Esteban. Seven years ago, when my father was dying, your mother offered to pay his medical bills—but only if I signed a contract to leave the country and never contact you again. She said if I stayed, she would ruin my family and ensure my father died in misery. I had no choice."
Tears spilled from Sarah's eyes as she looked at Lily, who had just run into the room. "And then, after I left, I found out I was pregnant. I raised Lily alone, keeping her safe from your family's cruelty. But my heart is failing now, Esteban. I couldn't afford the surgery. Lily... Lily must have found your wedding announcement in the paper and ran to find you."
Esteban turned to his mother, his voice trembling with pure rage. "You ruined my life, and you almost killed the only woman I ever loved."
