A Little Girl Found My Deceased Wife’s Photo and Claimed She Was Still Alive
Previously: When Robert dropped a photograph of his late wife on a rainy street, a little girl picked it up and asked a question that shattered his entire reality.
The Secret Clinic
Before Robert could speak, a tall man in a dark suit materialized from the shadows of an adjacent alleyway. He placed a firm hand on Maya’s shoulder, pulling her back.
"She is mistaken, sir. Come along, Maya,"the man said, his tone icy and absolute. Robert shouted for them to wait, but the man hurried the girl into a black sedan parked across the street. The car sped away, tires shrieking against the wet asphalt. But in their haste, a small silver medical bracelet slipped from Maya's wrist, clattering onto the cobblestones. Robert snatched it up. Engraved on the metal was his wife's maiden name, Elena Vance, alongside the name of a private psychiatric research facility on the city's outskirts.
Fueled by a mixture of adrenaline and desperate hope, Robert drove through the pouring rain to the isolated compound. He slipped through a rusted side gate and entered the sterile, dimly lit basement of the facility. Following the muffled sound of weeping, he found a heavy steel door with a small glass window at the end of a long corridor.
Looking through the glass, Robert’s heart nearly stopped. There, sitting on a cot, pale and trembling, was Elena. She was alive. But standing over her was the same man from the street, holding a syringe filled with a dark, glowing fluid. In the corner, Maya sat quietly, her eyes still shimmering with that unnatural crimson hue. As the man raised the needle to inject Elena, Robert gripped a heavy fire extinguisher from the wall, ready to smash the glass. But Elena looked up, her eyes locking onto his. She shook her head in sheer terror, silently mouthing: "Run."
