Previously: When nine-year-old Lily ran down the aisle clutching an old camera, Claire thought it was a childish game. But the recording inside exposed a dark betrayal that ruined her wedding day.

A Web of Deceit

The chapel erupted into gasps and murmurs. I stared at Thomas, the man I had trusted with my future, feeling as though the ground had vanished beneath my feet. The voice on the recording was undeniably his, and the cold, calculating tone was one I had never heard him use before. "Thomas, what is this?" I whispered, my voice shaking as tears finally spilled over my cheeks.

He scrambled for an excuse, his eyes darting toward the exit. "Claire, sweetheart, it's a deepfake! It's some kind of sick joke. Lily is just a kid, she doesn't know what she's doing. Someone set me up!" he pleaded, reaching out to grab my hands. I stepped back, letting Lily's small hand guide me away from him.

But the recording wasn't finished. The crackling audio continued, and a second voice spoke. It was a woman's voice, soft and familiar. "Are you sure she doesn't suspect anything? My sister isn't stupid, Thomas."

The breath caught in my throat. I knew that voice. It belonged to my maid of honor, my step-sister Evelyn. I slowly turned my head toward her. Evelyn was standing just a few feet away, her bridesmaid bouquet trembling in her hands. Her face had gone completely white, her eyes locked on the floor. The betrayal hit me like a physical blow. Not only was my fiancΓ© using me for my family inheritance, but he was doing it with my own step-sister.

"You both planned this?" I whispered, looking between them. "My inheritance? That's all this wedding was to you?"

Thomas realized the game was up. His desperate, loving facade crumbled, replaced by a cold sneer. "Come on, Claire, your father's trust fund was always meant to be shared. You really thought a guy like me would settle down with someone so naive for nothing?" he spat, his true colors finally exposed to the entire congregation.
