Previously: When a shivering six-year-old child interrupted a billionaire's exclusive gala, his arrogant daughter tried to throw her out—until the child revealed a silver locket that exposed a dark family secret.
A Dark Revelation
Ignoring the murmurs of his guests, Philip rushed down from the head table. His heart hammered against his ribs. The silver locket he wore was a custom family heirloom, one of only two created. The second locket had belonged to his eldest daughter, Clara, whom he had disowned seven years ago after Audrey accused her of embezzling from the family foundation. Clara had vanished into the night, pregnant and penniless, and Philip had spent years trying to suppress his guilt.
Now, staring at the identical locket in the child's hand, the truth felt like a physical blow.
"Father, don't let this street urchin ruin your night," Audrey pleaded, stepping between Philip and the girl. "I'll have security throw her out immediately."
"Step aside, Audrey!" Philip commanded, his voice booming through the silent hall.
He knelt before the weeping girl, gently taking her small hand in his.
"What is your name, sweetheart?" he asked softly.
"Zoey," she whispered. "My mommy gave me this locket. She told me if she ever went away, I had to find the man with the matching half. She said he was a good man, even if he forgot about us."
"Where is your mommy, Zoey?" Philip’s voice trembled.
"She’s very sick in the city hospital," Zoey sobbed. "They won't help her anymore because we don't have money. A mean lady told the doctors to stop trying."
At that moment, Philip’s head of security, Marcus, approached with a tablet. He looked nervously at Audrey, who had gone deathly pale.
"Sir," Marcus whispered. "We just traced the medical records of Clara Vance. Her treatments were flagged and canceled by an anonymous donor. The IP address used to authorize the cancellation belongs to Audrey's personal office."
Philip slowly stood up, looking at Audrey with a mixture of horror and fury. The daughter he had trusted had not only framed her sister years ago, but she was now actively trying to ensure Clara did not survive.
