Previously: When retired K9 officer Arthur Vance was wrongfully arrested, he thought his life was over. But he never expected his former police dog partner to break through the station and find him.

The Scent of the Truth

To Officers Sarah Jenkins and Clara Torres, this was no ordinary canine intervention. The dog, Buster, was a legendary police K9 who had served the department for six years alongside Arthur before Arthur’s forced retirement due to a severe knee injury. Since Arthur's departure, Buster had been reassigned to Sarah, but the dog had never truly been the same. He was distant, solemn, and worked only out of duty—until today.

Arthur had been arrested just six hours prior, accused of orchestrating a high-profile robbery at the local shipping docks where he worked as a night watchman. The evidence against him seemed ironclad: security footage showed a man of his build disabling the alarms, and a stash of stolen luxury goods had been found in his garage. Arthur insisted he had been framed by his supervisor, a corrupt man named Marcus Vance, who also happened to be Arthur's estranged nephew. But without proof, the detectives had already written Arthur off as a desperate, aging thief.

When Sarah had brought Buster into the precinct for an unrelated briefing, the dog had suddenly caught a scent. He broke free from his leash, sprinting through the secure hallways and down into the holding cells, leading the astonished officers straight to Arthur’s cage. But Buster hadn't just come to comfort his old friend. As Sarah knelt down to pull the dog back, she noticed something tangled in the mesh of Buster's tactical harness. It was a small, high-tech flash drive, smeared with grease and dirt.

"Where did he get this, Sarah?" Clara whispered, staring at the drive.

Sarah realized with a jolt that Buster had insisted on searching the perimeter of the crime scene earlier that morning, lingering by a drainage pipe near Marcus's office. The brilliant dog had retrieved the key piece of evidence that the human investigators had completely missed.
