Previously: When Mia, our quiet maid, burst into my mother's funeral carrying a heavy axe, we thought she had lost her mind. But then a faint whisper came from the shattered coffin.

A Dark Conspiracy Unveiled

The chapel erupted into absolute chaos. Ignoring Arthur’s frantic protests, Eleanor and Mia worked together to tear away the remaining pieces of the shattered wooden lid. Inside, Emma Sterling lay on the silk lining, her chest rising and falling in shallow, labored breaths. Her eyes fluttered open, glassy and unfocused, but she was undeniably alive. The crowd watched in stunned disbelief as the woman they had come to bury began to move.

Arthur tried to push his way through the crowd, his face pale and sweating. "This is a medical anomaly! A post-mortem spasm!" he shouted desperately. "We must close the casket and call an ambulance immediately!" But Mia stood her ground, holding the axe defensively between Arthur and the coffin. She knew Arthur's panic wasn't out of concern; it was out of fear of exposure.

Eleanor gently cradled her sister's head, tears spilling onto her black high-collar dress.

"Emma, can you hear me? What happened to you?" Eleanor whispered.

Emma’s dry lips parted, and she managed to speak a few barely audible words that chilled everyone to the bone.

"Arthur... the tea... he made me drink it... then I couldn't move..."

The accusation hung heavily in the air. At that exact moment, Dr. Harrison, the family physician who had signed Emma's death certificate without an autopsy, walked into the chapel. Seeing Emma alive and speaking, he froze in the doorway, his briefcase slipping from his hand. Arthur looked at the doctor, then at the exits. Realizing his plan was crumbling, Arthur made a desperate dash for the back door, but the mourners, now realizing the horrifying truth, blocked his path. Mia stood at the main exit, her eyes locked on the man who had tried to bury his wife alive. The sound of distant police sirens began to wail, growing louder by the second.
