Previously: When Mia, a young housemaid, disrupted a solemn funeral by smashing the coffin with an axe, the mourners thought she had lost her mind—until a voice whispered from inside.

The Poisoned Truth

With Eleanor’s command backing her, Mia used the pry-bar end of the axe to force the rest of the coffin lid open. The heavy wood groaned and gave way, revealing Emma lying inside. Her face was pale, but her chest was visibly rising and falling. Her eyes fluttered open, squinting against the bright chapel lights. She was weak, her breathing shallow, but she was alive.

A collective gasp rippled through the chapel. Arthur immediately rushed forward, his expression instantly shifting from panic to artificial joy.

"Oh, my darling! It’s a miracle! Call an ambulance immediately!"
he cried out, attempting to push Mia away and take control of the situation.

But Emma, gathering the absolute last of her strength, reached out and grabbed Mia’s dirty apron. She looked past her husband, straight at her grandmother Eleanor.

"Don't... don't let him touch me,"
Emma whispered, her voice cracking.
"The tea... he made me drink the tea."

The room went dead silent. Mia stood as a protective shield between Emma and Arthur.

"I saw him,"
Mia declared, her voice steadying.
"Every afternoon, Arthur insisted on brewing her special herbal tea. He wouldn't let me near it. And yesterday, right before she supposedly died, he threw the remaining leaves into the fireplace. But I saved some."

Arthur’s face drained of all color. He backed away, his hands shaking.

"This is absurd! She is delirious from her illness, and this maid is trying to frame me to cover up her own thefts!"
he shouted, looking desperately toward the exit. But the family’s loyal security guards, realizing the gravity of the situation, blocked the doors. Arthur was cornered, his web of lies unraveling in front of the entire high-society congregation.
