The Glowing Secret in the Nursery

The nursery was silent save for the soft, rhythmic breathing of baby Leo in his white wooden crib. But Clara’s heart was hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. Clutching a warm baby bottle with both hands, she stared at the white liquid inside. Her hands trembled violently. On her face, a dark, painful bruise marred her cheek and forehead—a grim souvenir from her violent encounter with Julian, the master of the house, just hours earlier. She knew what was in this bottle. She knew it was lethal.

Suddenly, the heavy wooden double doors burst open. Elena, the elegant homeowner, stepped into the room, her maroon silk robe billowing behind her. "Have you lost your mind?" Elena screamed, her eyes flashing with aristocratic fury as she saw Clara standing frozen by the crib.

In a panic, Clara let go. The glass bottle plummeted to the dark wooden floor, shattering instantly. Warm milk splattered across the floorboards, pooling into a wide, messy puddle. Clara sank to her knees, clutching her bruised face, sobbing desperately.

"No, I was protecting him! I swear I was protecting him!" Clara wailed, her voice cracking with raw emotion.

Elena marched forward, ready to fire the clumsy maid on the spot. But as she drew closer, she stopped. In the center of the spilled white puddle, a bizarre, glowing green chemical reaction was taking place. The milk was turning a sickly, radioactive emerald color. Elena’s breath hitched. She looked from the glowing puddle to Clara’s tear-stained face.

"Did you poison the milk?" Elena whispered, her voice trembling. Then, she stared closer at Clara’s face, recognizing the familiar shape of her eyes, the birthmark on her wrist, and the silver family ring on her finger. Shock washed over her. "Why... you are my sister?"
