The Mall Assault Was Just the Beginning of a Dark Family Secret
Previously: When Ashley stepped in to save a trembling stranger from an aggressive man at the mall, she had no idea their lives were already deeply, dangerously connected.
A Shocking Confrontation in the Security Office
The tense atmosphere shifted from the bustling mall floor to the sterile, brightly lit security office. Officer Davis stood by the door, his hand resting near his belt, keeping a sharp eye on Daniel, who was now sitting sullenly in a plastic chair, nursing a bruised ego and sore ribs. Emily sat across the room, her hands still shaking as Ashley wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders.
"Are you okay?"
Ashley asked softly, her voice filled with genuine concern for the woman she had just saved.
"Do you know this man?"
Emily nodded slowly, swallowing hard.
"He's... he's my husband. Or at least, he was supposed to be,"
Emily whispered, her voice cracking.
"I fled from him three months ago. He took everything—my savings, my dignity, and my peace of mind. He tracked me here today to force me to sign over the deed to my late mother's house."
Hearing this, Daniel sneered from his chair.
"You owe me that money, Emily! We had a deal!"
But before Officer Davis could tell Daniel to shut up, Ashley froze. Her face drained of all color as she stared intently at Daniel. She slowly reached into her pocket, pulled out her phone, and tapped the screen. She stared at a photo of a man smiling back at her, wearing the exact same navy blazer. Ashley slowly walked over to Daniel, her eyes burning with a mixture of disbelief and pure fury. She turned her phone screen toward him.
"A deal?"
Ashley whispered, her voice trembling.
"Is that what you call it? Because this man is Marcus to me. He is my fiancé, and we are supposed to be getting married in three weeks!"
The room fell into a suffocating silence. Emily gasped, looking from Ashley's phone to the man who had ruined her life. Daniel’s confident facade instantly crumbled into sheer panic.
