The Man in the Dark Suit Demanded to Know If My Son Was His
Previously: When Christopher suddenly appeared in Megan's rustic yard after seven years, a single glance at little Ben shattered his composure and forced a long-buried secret to light.
Unraveling the Lies
Megan felt the ground beneath her feet begin to slip away. For seven long years, she had prepared for this exact moment, yet nothing could have braced her for the raw agony in Christopher’s eyes. She wanted to lie. She wanted to protect the fragile, beautiful life she had built for herself and Ben in this quiet country town. But looking at Christopher, she knew it was impossible. Ben was his spitting image.
"Christopher, please," Megan gasped, her voice cracking. "Do not do this here. Not in front of him."
Christopher took a step closer, his hands trembling. The powerful, untouchable businessman looked completely broken. He knelt down slightly to be at eye level with Ben, then looked up at Megan, his voice thick with emotion.
"You disappeared, Megan. You took my child and vanished into thin air. Do you have any idea what that did to me?"
Megan’s shock turned to sudden, burning anger. She stepped between Christopher and her son, shielding Ben behind her apron.
"I disappeared?" she echoed, her voice rising in disbelief. "Your mother came to my apartment with a check and photos of you with another woman! She told me you had approved of the payoff, that I was just a distraction to your family's empire!"
Christopher froze, his face draining of all color. The anger in his eyes vanished, replaced by sheer horror. He stood up slowly, shaking his head in disbelief as the pieces of a cruel puzzle began to fall into place. The onlookers by the fence whispered frantically, sensing the gravity of the family secret unfolding before them.
"My mother told me you moved to Europe with another man," Christopher whispered, his voice trembling. "She said you wanted nothing to do with me. I never stopped looking for you, Megan. I never married."
