Marcus sneered, unimpressed by the phone call. "I don't care if you're the Chief of Medicine, sir. This kid is an unreliable employee who broke restaurant policy. He's done here."

Arthur, whose full professional name was Dr. Arthur Michael Carter, Chief of Medicine at the city's largest hospital, lowered his phone. His eyes flashed with a cold, protective fury. He looked at Marcus's name tag and then at the logo on the diner menu.

The Real Owner Steps Forward

"You must be Marcus," Arthur said, his voice deadly calm. "And you clearly don't know who owns this establishment."

Marcus laughed nervously, adjusting his collar. "The Golden Griddle is owned by the Carter Holding Group. What does that have to do with you?"

Arthur held up his phone screen, showing a live call to the group's executive director.

"Everything," Arthur replied. "Because I am the 'Carter' in Carter Holding Group. And as of this exact second, I am pulling our funding from this franchise."

The color completely drained from Marcus's face. The bald manager stumbled backward, stammering for words. He had spent years climbing the corporate ladder, only to realize he had just insulted and fired an employee in front of the billionaire owner of the entire chain.

Meanwhile, Toby stood there in shock. He was a hardworking high school senior who took this grueling dishwashing job to help support his single mother and save up for college. He had always dreamed of entering the medical field, but his family's financial situation made that dream seem completely impossible. Now, he had not only lost his meager source of income, but he was also standing in the middle of a high-stakes corporate showdown.

Arthur turned his back on the trembling manager and focused entirely on Toby. He saw the teenager's worn-out shoes, his tired eyes, and the sheer panic on his face.
