Previously: When teenage line cook Toby broke kitchen rules to save a choking child, his ruthless manager fired him on the spot. But the boy's grateful father was about to teach the diner owner a lesson.

The Tables Turn

Marcus stumbled backward, his hand trembling as he took the receiver. Over the line, the furious voice of the billionaire owner was loud enough for Toby and Arthur to hear. Marcus was being terminated immediately, not just from this branch, but blacklisted from the entire industry.

As Marcus hung up the phone, completely ruined, Arthur turned his full attention to the trembling teenager.

"What is your name, son?"

Arthur asked gently, wrapping an arm around his sobbing son, Leo.

"Toby, sir,"

the boy whispered.

"Well, Toby, why did you know how to do the Heimlich so perfectly?"

Toby looked down.

"I wanted to be a doctor, sir. I read medical books in my spare time. But my mom got sick, and we couldn't afford college. I had to work here instead."

Arthur smiled, a warm and emotional expression washing over his face.

"Toby, talent and courage like yours cannot be wasted in a kitchen under men like Marcus. My hospital has a fully funded scholarship program for aspiring medical students. I want you to apply, and I will personally sponsor you."

Toby couldn't believe his ears. Tears of joy streamed down his face, and he knew his life would never be the same again. In a single afternoon, he had gone from losing a dead-end job to receiving the opportunity of a lifetime. He shook Arthur’s hand, his chest swelling with hope for the first time in years.

Sometimes, standing up for what is right might cost you your present, but it will always pave the way to a much brighter future.
