Previously: When teenage kitchen worker Toby rushed to save a choking boy, his ruthless manager fired him on the spot. But the boy’s grateful father made one phone call that changed Toby’s life forever.

The Power of a Single Phone Call

Marcus laughed nervously, trying to assert his authority. "Look, mister, I don't care who you are. This kid broke restaurant policy. We have rules here, and I run a tight ship. He's done." The manager gestured toward the exit, completely blind to the crowd of diners staring at him with utter disgust.

Dr. Michael Carter didn't even look at Marcus. He kept his eyes locked on his phone, speaking to the person on the other end.

"Yes, Richard. I'm at the downtown franchise. The manager here just fired the young man who saved my son's life because he 'abandoned his post.' I want this sorted out immediately,"
Dr. Carter said, his voice cold and steady.

Hearing the name "Richard," Marcus’s smug expression suddenly faltered. Richard Vance was the billionaire CEO of the entire restaurant franchise, and he also happened to be a major benefactor of the hospital where Dr. Carter served as the Chief of Surgery. Marcus's bald head began to glisten with a fresh layer of sweat as he realized the gravity of his mistake.

"Wait, Dr. Carter, let's not act hastily," Marcus stammered, his voice losing its edge. "I was just... looking out for kitchen safety. Toby is a great worker. Toby, buddy, you're not fired! How about a promotion to shift supervisor? With a fifty-cent raise!"

Toby looked at his former boss, feeling a sudden surge of dignity. "No thank you, Marcus," Toby said quietly. Dr. Carter smiled warmly at the young man, then turned his attention back to Marcus.

"It is too late for excuses,"
the doctor said.
"You showed no humanity when a child was dying. You do not deserve to lead anyone."

You do not deserve to lead anyone."
