A Hero in Black Gloves

The diner was filled with the warm, comforting aroma of sizzling bacon and fresh coffee, but the peaceful atmosphere shattered in an instant. At a corner booth, young Nathan, wearing a light blue hoodie, suddenly clutched his throat. His face turned a terrifying shade of purple as he gasped for air, unable to make a sound. His father, George, panicked, desperately patting his back, but nothing worked. Nathan was choking.

From the open kitchen, Austin, a teenage kitchen hand wearing a grey t-shirt and black gloves, saw the emergency unfold. Instantly, his instincts kicked in. He dropped his cleaning rag and bolted toward the booth. Behind him, the bald manager, Raymond, roared with fury,

Get back to work! You do not leave your station!

Austin ignored the screaming manager. He reached the choking boy, pulled him up, and wrapped his arms around Nathan's midsection. With precise, powerful thrusts, Austin performed the Heimlich maneuver. After three agonizing seconds, a piece of hard candy flew out of Nathan's mouth. The boy gasped, drawing in a deep, life-saving breath of air.

Before Austin could even catch his breath, Raymond stepped forward, his face flushed with anger.

You disobeyed a direct order,
Raymond sneered, pointing a finger at the door.
You're fired. Get out of my diner.
But before Austin could react, George grabbed the young man's arm, his eyes filled with immense gratitude.
You saved my son,
George declared. He pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and spoke with absolute authority:
This young man just saved a child's life. Yes, this is Dr. Michael Carter.

Yes, this is Dr. Michael Carter.
