Previously: When Colonel Arthur stormed into his daughter's living room to save her from her husband, he thought the nightmare was over. But the truth behind the husband's injury changed everything.

The Unveiling of the Boxes

Arthur kept his knee firmly planted in Mark’s back, reaching for his phone to call the local authorities. "You're going to pay for laying a hand on my daughter," Arthur growled, his military discipline barely keeping his rage in check. But instead of cursing or begging for mercy, Mark let out a choked, desperate laugh that ended in a sob. "You don't understand, Colonel," Mark gasped, his face pressed against the dusty carpet. "Look in the boxes. Please, just look in the boxes before you ruin everything."

Sarah was still rocking back and forth on the floor, whispering incoherently to herself. Arthur frowned, his gaze flickering from the trembling man beneath him to the cardboard boxes scattered around. Slowly, Arthur released his grip. "If you move, I will put you down permanently," he warned sternly. He stepped over to the nearest open box. Expecting to find stolen goods or evidence of a crime, Arthur reached inside.

His hands brushed against neat stacks of medical files, prescription bottles, and brochures for specialized neurological rehabilitation centers. He pulled out a thick folder with Sarah's name printed on the tab. As he flipped through the pages, the grim reality began to dawn on him. The diagnoses were severe: early-onset aggressive dementia, accompanied by violent paranoid episodes. Arthur's eyes widened as he looked at the bandage on Mark's forehead. "She... she did that to you?" Arthur whispered, his voice suddenly losing all of its commanding power.

"She had an episode this morning," Mark explained softly, slowly standing up and rubbing his bruised shoulder. "She didn't recognize me. She panicked, threw a heavy glass vase at my head, and tried to run. I was just trying to hold her, to keep her safe until her medication kicked in. I wasn't hurting her, Colonel. I was trying to save her."
