Previously: A spilled drink escalates into a terrifying showdown in a high-stakes mob world. A seemingly innocent waitress finds herself at the center of a dangerous power play between a brutal lieutenant and a calculating patriarch.

The Don's Daughter

Gregory Thorne’s terrified whimpers filled the void left by Don Vance’s chilling ultimatum. His face was a mask of pure panic, tears streaming down his reddened temples as he gasped for air against the Don’s crushing grip. His hands scrabbled weakly at Vance’s wrists, a futile gesture against the syndicate patriarch’s raw power. Liam, still kneeling amidst the shards of crystal and porcelain, watched the scene unfold with a mixture of terror and dawning awe. The pain in her cheek was a dull throb now, overshadowed by the sheer spectacle of the Don’s wrath.

Vance’s gaze, however, was not solely fixed on Thorne. As Gregory’s desperate pleas grew louder, the Don’s eyes shifted, flicking past the lieutenant’s contorted face towards Liam. He saw her not as the clumsy waitress who had spilled champagne on Thorne’s expensive suit, but as someone else entirely. A flicker of recognition, then something akin to regret, crossed his weathered features. He saw the porcelain skin, the faint freckles, the way her auburn hair had cascaded loose – features he hadn’t seen in years, but which were undeniably familiar.

“Enough,” Don Vance’s voice cut through Thorne’s pathetic begging, softer now, but no less commanding. He released his grip, and Thorne collapsed onto the table, gasping and sputtering. “Get up, Gregory. You will apologize to the lady. Properly.”

Thorne scrambled to his feet, his body trembling. He shot Liam a look of pure hatred, but the fear in his eyes was potent. He turned to face her, his arrogance completely shattered. “I… I am sorry, miss,” he stammered, his voice hoarse. “It was uncalled for. I was out of line.”

Liam slowly rose, her legs still shaky. She met Thorne’s gaze, then looked at Don Vance. The Don nodded almost imperceptibly. “And you will pay for the damages,” Vance added, his eyes never leaving Liam’s. “A significant sum. And you will never lay a hand on her, or anyone, again. Understood?”

“Yes, Don Vance. Understood,” Thorne choked out, bowing his head in utter submission. He fumbled for his wallet, pulling out a thick wad of cash and placing it on the table near Liam. It was more money than she had ever seen in her life, a fortune meant to buy his way out of a far graver consequence.

As Thorne scurried away, casting one last terrified glance back, Liam finally turned her full attention to Don Vance. He regarded her silently for a long moment, his expression unreadable. The opulent ballroom seemed to fade into the background, leaving only the two of them under the flickering chandelier light.
