A Brutal Dismissal

The air in the wood-paneled county supreme courtroom crackled with tension. Shafts of amber sunlight, thick with dust motes, sliced through the tall arched windows, illuminating the hushed spectators packed onto the heavy oxblood leather benches. Polished brass railings gleamed, reflecting the flickering chandeliers above. The muffled resonance of gallery murmurs and shuffling papers created a palpable sense of dread. Standing with arrogant, rigid posture was Victoria Sterling, a 52-year-old elite art professor. Her impeccably tailored charcoal wool blazer with silk lapels seemed to radiate disdain, and her platinum-blonde hair was pinned into a severe chignon, accentuating her sharp cheekbones and cold, slate-gray eyes. Opposite her sat Grace, a 22-year-old disowned painter, slouched in defensive vulnerability. Her oversized thrifted cream cable-knit sweater bore ultramarine paint stains at the cuffs, and her auburn hair tumbled from a loose knot, framing hollowed, bruised undereyes. Her slender fingers trembled. Victoria, with a vicious sneer, violently drove her manicured thumb through the textured impasto center of Grace's oil painting. A sickening shrrk echoed as she snapped the wooden stretcher bars over her knee. "This amateur drivel belongs in the municipal incinerator, not in a gallery or my curriculum!" Victoria spat, her voice laced with mocking venom. Grace remained silent, her jaw clenched in paralyzed agony, tears welling as her breath hitched.

"You are expelled, penniless, and will never show your pathetic face in the art world again!"

Victoria hurled the shredded canvas scraps onto the mahogany floorboards with brutal velocity. Dry pigment dust swirled into the air, eliciting gasps from the shocked gallery. "You are expelled, penniless, and will never show your pathetic face in the art world again!" Victoria declared with haughty derision. Grace swallowed back a choked sob, her chin quivering. A single tear traced a path down her flushed cheek as her knuckles turned stark white, gripping the bench. Suddenly, the courtroom doors blasted open with a thunderous echo. Stepping vigorously down the aisle were Henri Laurent, Chief Curator of the Louvre, and Julian Vance, Global Chairman of Sotheby's, both clad in expensive overcoats and holding leather portfolios. "Cease this disgraceful vandalism immediately, Madame Sterling!" Henri commanded with commanding authority. Victoria’s cruel sneer froze into bewildered shock, her painted eyebrows knitting in confusion.
