Eleanor’s jaw dropped. The smug satisfaction on her face vanished, replaced by a mask of cold indignation.

"How dare you speak to me that way, Justin!"

she hissed, stepping closer.

"I am your mother! I built the foundation for everything you have. You wouldn't even be standing in this house if it weren't for my connections and my financial backing!"

By now, the argument had drawn the attention of the guests. The music died down, and a tense silence fell over the open-concept home. Neighbors and colleagues watched in stunned silence as the family drama unfolded. Justin didn't back down. He kept one protective arm around Chloe, who was still trembling against his chest.

"I don't care about your money or your connections, Mother,"

Justin said, his voice dangerously low.

"If you cannot respect my wife—the woman who built this life with me from nothing—then you have no place in this home. I want you to leave. Now."

Eleanor let out a sharp, bitter laugh. She turned to the remaining guests, trying to save face.

"He's throwing away his family for a girl who brings nothing to the table,"

she announced loudly. She then turned back to Justin, her eyes narrowing.

"If I walk out that door, I am pulling my investment from your new venture. You'll be ruined before you even start. Let's see how much your precious wife respects you when you're broke."

Chloe gripped Justin's arm, her heart sinking. She knew how hard Justin had worked for this promotion and his upcoming business partnership. She didn't want to be the reason his dreams shattered.

"Justin, please,"

she whispered.

"Don't do this. I can handle the dishes. Just let it go."
