The laughter and clinking of crystal glasses echoed from the dining room of the upscale suburban home. To any outsider, Justin’s promotion party was a resounding success. But inside the sunlit, marble-accented kitchen, a different story was unfolding. Chloe stood before the sink, her hands trembling as she scrubbed a mountain of porcelain plates. Tears streamed down her face, dripping onto her brown linen apron. She felt completely invisible, reduced to a servant in her own home.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors swung open. Justin stepped in, looking sharp in his tailored black suit, his brow furrowed with concern. He had noticed his wife’s absence and came looking for her. The moment he saw her tear-streaked face, his expression hardened. "What's going on here?" he demanded, his voice laced with anger.

Standing near the island, Eleanor, Justin’s mother, scoffed dismissively. Dressed in an elegant bronze gown, she adjusted her diamond necklace and waved a hand. "Don't be so dramatic, Justin. She just wanted to feel useful. After all, someone has to clean up."

Justin ignored his mother and stepped closer to Chloe. Gently, he reached behind her back to untie the knots of her apron, pulling it off her shoulders. He looked deeply into her eyes. "Look at me, Chloe. Did you really want to wash dishes during the party?"

Chloe looked up, her voice cracking as she sobbed. "No, Justin... She told me that my place was in the kitchen because I'm just the mother of your daughter, not a real member of this family."

A cold fury washed over Justin. He turned slowly, pointing a trembling finger toward the door. "My party is over. Get out of my house, Mother," he ordered, his voice dangerously low. Eleanor gasped in disbelief, but Justin didn't wait for her reply. He pulled Chloe into a tight, comforting hug, whispering promises of safety in her ear as his mother stormed out in silence.
