The damp alleyway fell silent, save for the sound of Sarah’s desperate, heavy weeping. Leo, stiff and confused at first, slowly began to cry as well, the familiar scent of his mother’s perfume unlocking memories he thought were lost forever. Emily looked between them, her mind racing. She had grown up knowing she had an older brother, Leo, who had supposedly run away and perished years ago. That was the story her father, Richard, had told her before he passed away. "Dad told me you didn't want me anymore. After you two divorced, he took me to another state. When I kept asking for you, he told me you had started a new family and forbade him from letting me contact you. He said I was a burden."

Emily gasped, covering her mouth. Their father had been a controlling, bitter man, but she never imagined he could commit such a monstrous act of vengeance against his ex-wife.
