Previously: When Florence popped the champagne at her son's wedding, everyone thought it was an embarrassing accident. But the messy spray was actually a calculated move to expose a devastating family secret.

The Dry Document

As the laughter of the oblivious guests died down, the tension in the backyard became suffocating. Susan was trembling, her wet mascara running down her cheeks as she glared at her soon-to-be mother-in-law. Mark quickly handed Susan his linen handkerchief, his eyes darting between his furious bride and his silent mother.

"I am so sorry, Susan," Mark pleaded, turning to Florence with fury in his eyes. "Mother, you ruined the ceremony! How could you be so careless?"

But Florence didn't flinch. She set the empty bottle down on the linen-covered table with a heavy thud. She slowly reached into the deep pocket of her beige cardigan and pulled out a plastic-wrapped document, completely dry despite the champagne deluge.

"I didn't ruin the ceremony, Mark," Florence said, her voice steady and clear enough for the front rows to hear. "I stopped a crime."

Susan’s face drained of color, turning as pale as her ruined gown. She tried to grab Leo’s hand to pull him away, but Florence stepped between them. Florence unfolded the papers, revealing a certified marriage certificate and a recent private investigator's report.

"Three years ago, Susan told you that Leo’s father had tragically passed away in an accident," Florence announced, her eyes locked onto Susan. "She claimed she was a grieving widow looking for a fresh start. But the truth is, David Miller is very much alive. And Susan never divorced him."

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Mark stared at the documents, his hands shaking as he saw the recent photographs of David Miller, alive and well, living in Chicago. Susan had lied about her past, fabricating a tragic backstory to win Mark’s sympathy and secure his family's considerable estate to pay off her massive, hidden debts.

"This is a lie! She's crazy!" Susan screamed, her voice cracking as she looked at Mark. "Mark, you have to believe me!"

But the final blow was yet to come. Florence pointed toward the entrance of the garden. "If I'm crazy, Susan, then who is that?"
