The Revelation on the Lawn

The golden hour sun cast long, amber shadows across the manicured lawn of the estate. For three long years, William had lived in a world of muted sounds and absolute darkness, his eyes shielded behind thick black sunglasses. After the car accident, his life had shrunk to the confines of his wooden bench and the comforting, albeit overprotective, presence of his wife, Margaret. Today, he sat wearing his favorite brown tweed jacket, enjoying the gentle warmth on his face, unaware that his reality was about to shatter.

Suddenly, the light, energetic footsteps of eight-year-old Chloe broke the silence. Chloe, the neighbor’s daughter, was an unusually observant child. She stood directly in front of William, her light-blue dress rustling in the breeze. Without warning, she reached out and snatched the sunglasses right off his face. William winced, his eyes squinting against the sudden, blinding glare of the sun. But as he blinked, he realized something shocking—the darkness wasn't absolute. He could see the blurry, colorful outline of the little girl standing before him.

"You're not blind," Chloe said, her voice ringing with childhood certainty.

William froze, his heart hammering against his ribs. The world seemed to stand completely still. He whispered in utter disbelief, "What did you say?"

Chloe didn't hesitate. She pointed a small hand toward the slate path behind him.

"It's your wife," she declared.
In the background, Margaret stood paralyzed, her pale pink dress catching the evening light. She let out a sharp, horrified gasp, dropping her gardening shears onto the stone path with a loud clatter.

Chloe leaned closer, her eyes wide with earnest truth.

"She puts it in your food," she continued.
William, breathing heavily, felt a cold sweat break out across his forehead.
"What are you talking about?" he asked, panic rising in his chest.
Chloe pointed once more toward Margaret.
"Ask her what she put in your tea."

"Ask her what she put in your tea."
