My Dangerous Ex Tracked Me to New York, but I Had a Secret Trap Waiting
Previously: After fleeing her abusive, wealthy husband, Sarah thought she had vanished into the crowds of New York City. She had no idea his dangerous tracker was already closing in on her subway car.
The Cornered Prey
Panic surged through Sarah’s veins like liquid ice. She forced myself to look away, staring straight ahead at the opposite wall, her knuckles turning white inside her pockets. She couldn't let Mark see her fear. If she panicked now, she would lose whatever precious seconds of advantage she had left. She needed a plan, and she needed it before the train reached the next platform.
As the train began to screech and slow down, the automated voice announced the stop. The doors slid open with a heavy metallic sigh. Sarah didn't hesitate. She bolted out of the car, her boots slamming against the dirty concrete platform. Behind her, she heard the heavy, rapid thuds of Mark’s boots. He was giving chase, abandoning all pretense of subtlety.

She flew up the concrete stairs, desperately hoping to find a crowded street, but the late-night station was eerily deserted. Cold rain was pouring down outside the exit, rendering the streets slick and empty. Desperate, Sarah turned down a long, tiled pedestrian corridor, her breath coming in ragged, painful gasps. The dripping of water from the ceiling echoed like a ticking clock.
Suddenly, a powerful hand gripped her shoulder, spinning her around with brutal force. Sarah gasped as her back hit the cold, damp tiles of the wall. Mark stood before her, blocking her path to the stairs, his chest heaving slightly, his face twisted into a triumphant, arrogant sneer.
"Did you really think you could run from Julian?" Mark whispered, his voice echoing off the walls. "He owns you, Sarah. He always has. You’re coming home."
Sarah swallowed hard, trying to keep her voice from trembling. "I'm not going back, Mark. It's over."
Mark laughed, a dry, mocking sound. "We'll see about that. But first, you're going to hand over the flash drive. We know you took the financial ledgers. Give it to me, and maybe I'll persuade Julian to go easy on you."
Sarah’s hand slowly drifted toward her coat pocket, where the cold metal drive rested. It was her only leverage, her only shield against Julian’s wrath. If she gave it up, she was truly helpless. But as she looked into Mark's arrogant eyes, her fear suddenly transformed into a cold, sharp resolve.
