My Dangerous Ex Tracked Me to New York, but I Had a Secret Trap Waiting
Previously: After fleeing her abusive, wealthy husband, Sarah thought she had vanished into the crowds of New York City. She had no idea his dangerous tracker was already closing in on her subway car.
The Trap Is Sprung
Instead of pulling out the flash drive, Sarah let her hand drop to her side. A slow, calm smile spread across her face, completely catching Mark off guard. His triumphant smirk faltered, his eyebrows knitting together in deep confusion.
"What are you smiling at?" Mark snapped, stepping closer and reaching for her arm. "This isn't a game, Sarah."
"I know it's not," Sarah whispered softly. "And you really shouldn't have followed me here."

Before Mark could grasp her wrist, a sharp, authoritative voice cut through the damp air of the corridor.
"Federal agents! Put your hands where we can see them!"
From the shadows of the exit stairs and the adjacent maintenance hallway, four armed federal agents emerged, their weapons drawn and flashlights blinding Mark. He froze, his eyes widening in shock as he realized he was completely surrounded. Within seconds, two agents slammed him against the tiled wall, pulling his hands behind his back and clicking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
An older man in a dark trench coat stepped forward, flashing a gold badge. It was Agent Vance of the FBI's white-collar crime division. He looked at Sarah and gave a respectful nod. "Excellent work, Sarah. We got everything we needed."
Sarah pulled a small, active recording device from her inner coat pocket and handed it to the agent, along with the flash drive. She had contacted the FBI weeks before fleeing, exposing Julian's massive money laundering operation. Knowing Julian would send Mark to track her, she had worked with the feds to set a trap. By luring Mark into a controlled environment and getting him to confess to extortion on tape, they now had airtight federal charges against both brothers.
Mark stared at her in utter disbelief as he was dragged away, realizing too late that he had walked straight into a trap. Sarah walked out of the subway station into the cool, cleansing rain, feeling the crushing weight finally lift from her chest. She was no longer a victim running in fear; she was free.
Sometimes, the only way to escape the suffocating shadows of your past is to turn around, face them head-on, and lead them straight into the light.
