My Daughter Led Me Behind A Carnival Ride And Found A Ghost
Previously: When nine-year-old Ava begs her father to go home from a carnival, she reveals a chilling secret hidden behind the rides that changes their lives forever.
The Shadow of the Past
Ava led her father away from the bright, noisy heart of the carnival, moving toward the dark, overgrown perimeter where the old, abandoned utility sheds stood. The cheerful music of the Ferris wheel faded into an eerie, distant hum. Christopher kept a firm grip on Ava's hand, his mind racing with terrifying possibilities.
They stopped in front of a rusted metal shed. Ava looked up at him, her eyes pleading for trust, and slowly pushed the heavy door open.
Inside, huddled in the damp darkness on a pile of old tarps, was a woman. She was terribly thin, wrapped in a tattered gray coat, her face pale and hollow. But when she raised her head, Christopher felt the world tilt on its axis. Those striking green eyes, the shape of her jaw—it was impossible.
"Sarah?"
Christopher whispered, falling to his knees as his brain scrambled to comprehend. Sarah, his beloved wife, had supposedly drowned in a tragic boating accident seven years ago. He had buried her. He had mourned her every single day.
The woman stared at him, a sob tearing from her throat. She reached out with a trembling hand, clutching a faded drawing of a house—a drawing Ava had made as a toddler.
"Christopher... you're alive,"
she gasped, her voice barely a rasp.
"They told me you and Ava died in the storm. They kept me locked away in a private facility... I only escaped two days ago."
Before Christopher could ask who "they" were, a heavy shadow fell across the open doorway. Christopher spun around, shielding his wife and daughter.
Standing there, holding a heavy iron flashlight, was his older brother, Julian. A cold, calculating smirk played on Julian's face as he stepped into the shed.
"You always did have a habit of ruining my plans, Christopher,"
Julian sneered, his voice devoid of any brotherly warmth.
