The front door clicked open downstairs. Helen had returned. Arthur stood up, his jaw set, the pain in his heart transforming into a cold, hard resolve. He looked down at Chloe, who was watching him with wide, sighted eyes. The fallout was immense. Helen eventually confessed to the authorities, receiving probation and mandatory rehabilitation. Arthur filed for divorce, taking full custody of Chloe. Though the transition was incredibly painful, the relief in Chloe's eyes was worth every difficult moment.
