Previously: Two years after our divorce, I found Claire scrubbing floors in my hotel. She still wore my ring. But my fiancée Victoria was watching — and she had a secret that would destroy us all.

The Truth Behind the Test

Alexander stared at the envelope in his hands. The paper felt heavy, like it was weighted with lies. He looked at Claire—her face was a mask of disbelief and pain. She was shaking her head, whispering, "No, no, no..."

Victoria smirked, crossing her arms. "Go on, Alexander. Open it. See what your precious wife was hiding."

He didn't want to. Every instinct screamed at him to throw the envelope away, to grab Claire and run. But he had to know. He had to see the truth with his own eyes.

With a deep breath, he tore open the seal and pulled out the papers. The words blurred in front of him. He read them once, twice, three times. And then he looked up at his mother.

"This says the test was done six months ago," he said slowly. "But Claire lost the baby two years ago."

Margaret's face flickered with surprise. "What?"

"You said you had her followed," Alexander continued, his voice hardening. "You said the baby wasn't mine. But this test was done six months ago. How is that possible?"

Claire stepped forward, her hands clasped together. "Because there was no baby, Alexander," she said softly. "I never got pregnant. Your mother made that up."

Margaret's composure cracked. "You lying little—"

"I have proof," Claire interrupted. She pulled out her phone, showing a video. "I recorded this conversation with your mother a year ago. She admitted she made up the pregnancy to keep me away from you."

Alexander watched the video. His mother's voice, cold and calculating, echoed through the speaker. "You really think I'd let my son marry a maid? I'll destroy you, Claire. I'll make sure he never looks at you again."

He looked up at his mother, his eyes filled with fury. "You did all of this. You ruined our marriage. You hired Victoria to lie to me. You—"

"I did it to protect you!" Margaret shouted. "She was nothing! She was a nobody!"

"She was my wife!" Alexander roared. "The woman I loved. And you took her away from me."

Victoria tried to back away, but Alexander grabbed her arm. "And you. You helped her. You played me for a fool."

"I was paid," Victoria said, her voice trembling. "I didn't have a choice."

"You always have a choice," Alexander said. He looked at Claire. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for everything."

Claire wiped her tears. "It's not your fault, Alexander. Your mother was always going to come between us."

He stepped closer to her. "I know I don't deserve it, but I want to make it right. I want to spend the rest of my life making it up to you."

Claire looked at him for a long moment. "I don't know if I can trust you again," she said. "But I know one thing—I never stopped loving you."

Alexander pulled her into his arms, holding her tight. "I never stopped loving you either."

Margaret stood there, watching them. Her face was pale, her hands shaking. "You're making a mistake, Alexander. She'll destroy you."

"No, Mother," Alexander said, turning to face her. "You've destroyed enough. I'm done with your lies."

He looked at Victoria, who was shrinking against the wall. "And you. You're fired. Get out of my hotel."

Victoria opened her mouth to protest, but Alexander cut her off. "Now."

She scrambled away, her heels clicking against the marble floor. Margaret stood her ground, her eyes blazing with contempt.

"You'll regret this," she said.

"I already regret it," Alexander said. "I regret not standing up to you sooner."

He turned back to Claire. "Come with me. Let's start over. Please."

Claire hesitated, then nodded. "Okay."

He took her hand, and together, they walked out of the hotel, leaving Margaret and her lies behind. The night air was cool, the stars bright overhead. Claire looked up at him, a small smile on her face.

"I never thought I'd see you again," she said.

"I never thought I'd get a second chance," Alexander replied. "But I'm not going to waste it."

He pulled out his phone and dialed his lawyer. "I need to annul my engagement to Victoria," he said. "And I need to make sure my mother never gets near Claire again."

The lawyer promised to handle it. Alexander hung up and looked at Claire. "From now on, it's just us. No more lies. No more interference."

Claire squeezed his hand. "I like the sound of that."

As they walked into the future, Alexander knew that this time, he would fight for her. He would never let anyone tear them apart again.

Sometimes the greatest love stories are the ones that survive the worst betrayals. And sometimes, the best revenge is simply choosing to be happy.
